NPC dynamics

Besides other players, a large part of LLC surrounds the mechanics of the NPC inhabitance of the LLC world.

The Labor Market

Almost every firm within the world uses some "labor", with many needing specialized labor in relevent fields. Every NPC has an occupation, which determines what type of labor they produce, and each occupations labor is valued independantly by the market.

Migration

Each occupation has its own "expected wage", which signifys what they could expect to make doing their job outside the world of LLC. If the in-game wage falls too far below this expected wage, NPCs of this occupation will find work elsewhere and leave the game. If the in-game wage is significantly above the expected wage, this will encourage immigration for this occupation and more NPCs will move in.Through these two mechanisms, the labor market will both be subject to market forces and generally fall within a reasonable range

Consumer Spending

As NPCs earn money through their occupations, they can then spend this in three main areas:

  • Rent and Housing

    • All NPCs strongly desire to have a roof over their head and at least a small place to live. This will usually be the first thing on their budget, even if their other needs are going unmet.

    • As NPCs earn more money and have more disposable income, they like to upgrade their living situation by both getting more space and upgrading the luxury.

    • Both of these dynamics are modeled using two virtual commodities "rental_sqft" and "rental_lux", which are produced in housing firms and consumed by NPCs in proportion to the money they want to spend on bigger, nicer apartments

  • Retail Spending

    • After securing their housing, a large chunk of NPC money flows back into the retail sector, where they spend money on products of their chosing

    • More info on this can be found in the "Retail" section of these docs

  • Investment

    • If the NPC still has money left over, they might invest it into either in-game stock or precious metals like Gold or Silver. In general this is a small portion, and they will try to accumulate as much as they can. But In difficult times they may decide to sell their investments to pay for essentials
